Although the components of your zone 1 may differ, I think you can see that this makes for a great space to have fun with family and friends, unwind, and gather food. Also, when you position your plants that need more attention where you are more frequently, you are more likely to spot issues before they go too far. Using permaculture zones in design makes your life easier, not harder.
Permaculture Zone 2
Zone 2 is the region of your property that is a little further away but that you still frequently visit. Instead of just visiting them without thinking, like with zone 1, you usually have to choose to go to these places.
Adding more fruit trees, berries, and perennial vegetables here may be an excellent idea. Additionally, beneficial additions to this permaculture zone are chickens and rabbits.
You don't have to be present all the time, even though you might visit these components every day.
Therefore, what components does permaculture zone 2 often contain? To help you get started, below is a list of some components.
Small animals like rabbits and hens
Vegetable plots that are devoted to crops you don't harvest every day, such as onions and a number of perennial vegetables
A small food forest is a wonderful addition to zone 2, with dwarf fruit trees and berry bushes
The worm farms
Piles of leaf mold and compost bins
Mulch mounds
Plants that draw pollinators
The main shed or store
Native flora that benefits wildlife
